Overview

David Jeng served as Lead Consultant for WIPO’s Empowering Youth in Innovation and Creativity programme from May 2025 to January 2026. The supplied portfolio records programme closure and final reporting in January 2026.

The context

The hybrid programme brought together training, coaching and mentorship for youth-led SMEs across Sub-Saharan Africa. Participants worked in mentor-led groups, combining shared learning with enterprise-specific support.

The portfolio records an IP diagnostic of 49 SMEs, delivery of 33 brand identities and mentorship for 48 entrepreneurs from 20 countries. These figures describe different activities and participant measures, rather than interchangeable totals.

The assignment illustrates the connection between understanding a business’s IP position and building its branding and enterprise capabilities. It is listed as completed in the October 2026 portfolio.

David’s professional contribution

David holds a Master in Intellectual Property from Africa University and has led or contributed to WIPO training and mentorship assignments across African markets. His work connects IP awareness with branding, business strategy and commercialisation. He helps participants understand their assets, identify protection needs and build IP considerations into the way they develop their enterprises.

Understanding the scope

The assignment describes a specific role within a wider institutional programme. Programme delivery, diagnostics and reporting are different activities. The information above identifies the stage and outputs recorded in the portfolio, without extending them into unreported business or financial outcomes. Where follow-up is described as planned or in preparation, it remains distinct from completed delivery.
